The vanderbilt mausoleum sits on the eastern slope of todt hill in the new dorp section of staten island adjacent to moravian cemetery. Commissioned by william henry vanderbilt 1821 1885 it was built between 1881 and 1889.
At one time the doors were iron gates but in the 1960s a woman pulled on the gates trying to get inside the tomb and the gates fell on her and killed her.
